About Bear

Bear (Breslin) was adopted October 10, 2004 from the Born Free Animal Rescue shelter in the redlands. His origin is unknown, although at his time of adoption, he was thought to be a Border Collie who had been born at the shelter and not adopted. He was said to have been there 2-3 years at the time, and to be roughly the same age. After further review by professionals, he was declared to be in fact as much as double that age, and his origins seem to be grow a bit cloudier at that point. For quite some time Bear was afraid of new people, and we suspect that may have been from either an earlier history of abuse, or severe undersocialization. Either way, we have tried our hardest to help him overcome this problem.

After the year+ we've had him, he has grown to be quite fond of people, and also more self-confident with himself. He now barks to announce the presence of new people in the house (but just to make sure we know they are there), and he is quickly losing his fear of people (as he begins to explore the common areas of the house more).

We have come to think the Bear is in fact a Bordernese, a mixture of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Border Collie. He is smack in the middle of the two breeds size wise weighing in at a hefty 80lbs, and displaying characteristics of both breeds. Normally very quiet, and quite alert, he often displays a goofy side to his personality too.
